Brilliant, hard-hitting and hard strumming folkie from the early 70s who never broke the obscurity ceiling.

Hats off to the wonderful folks at BGO for this two CD re-issue of these hard to find 1970/71 Lp's recorded for CBS UK. The label gave Softley the freedom to record these Lp's as he wanted. These feature some wonderful songwriting with some intresting arrangements, from solo guitar to full group featuring a crop of noted folk-rock players including Richard Thompson, Jerry Donahue & Lesley Duncan. Softleys' eccentric vocals will appeal to fans of Roy Harper but if your looking for another soft folkie like Nick Drake, this is not it. Give this a shot, it seems odd at first but it grows on you quickly with some catchy lyrics and melody. The original LP's command big prices making this set a real bargain. Usual up to par BGO standards on the booklet and notes compliment the music very well.

two gems of albums for any one interested in the english folk/blues scene of the late sixties, beautifull solo acoustic songs[on the road again, waterfall, caravan,]and some with that lovely eastern sixties touch of tablas/sitar/flutes[eagle,love colours]some pretty average stuff with a full band, but the best of it really shines out with that swingin troubadour contemplating nature, god +the highway ,very uniquely english[though with an american influence, blues, gospel etc] as so much of the music of that era/scene is.if you like jansch/renbourn/drake/chapman this is for you.
