.....we can call this tape the "Paul Samson tape".........
Two acetate recording, one from 1970 with songs from first lp, and one from the period
West, Bruce & Laing , but here you dont have ANY overdubs!
and you can hear the powerfull trio in his reality, no jocks, no post productions.
The late Paul samson ( leader of the band...SAMSON) was a good friend of mine,
he was into tape trading and...Jimi Hendrix!
We shared tapes, letters...and we talked a lot of music, of all our heroes!
Paul was a very sincere guy, and shared with me lot's of storyes of his band,
music business in general, guitars tech , bad adventure-s.....
but he never, never told me he was battling ( from many years!!) with a bad cancer.
He died in 2002...it seems yesterday, still have pile of letters..and tapes!
Leslie west was one his heroes,.... Paul had good contacts in music biz,
and found alot of very rare tapes.
He was so kindly to share with me
lot of'em, and one is this particular C90 tape full of Mountain rare stuff.
He send me more leslie west stuff,
like the The Leslie West south shield 1987 gig ( still on this traker)
he had it from the tour manager of that 1987 English tour.
( i upped it two times on DIME,...since is still here on TD i'll never do it again)
We shared lot's of Jimi hendrix stuff, some metal stuff..AND this Mountain tape.
Little mistake of good old Paul, he recorded a bit TOO LOUD some songs,
and you can hear some distortion here and there...
SO, it's not my fault buddyes!! so..dont hassle me ok? :-)
i just added, to complete the tape, a live TV broadcast (by our italian television)
of Leslie West "theme from imaginary western" ( during the 1989 night of guitar tour)
Recorded by me live off tv...
ok?
Enjoy!
Dedicated to the late Paul Samson
Paul Samson (4 June 1953 – 9 August 2002)[1] was an English guitarist, closely associated with the new wave of British heavy metal.
Born Paul Sanson, his first band in 1968 was a local Kent based group called 'The Innocence' which consisted of him, Stewart Cochrane,
Phil Stranders and the late Martin Kirrage. After a period in several obscure bands, Samson formed his own eponymous outfit, Samson, in 1977,
consisting of Chris Aylmer on bass guitar, and Clive Burr on drums. Burr left, and eventually joined Iron Maiden, and was replaced by Thunderstick,
who wore a gimp mask on stage. In 1979, the line-up was expanded to a four-piece, with the addition of Bruce Dickinson on vocals
(under the stage name "Bruce Bruce".)
The band enjoyed a cult following in the new wave of British heavy metal, releasing the albums, Survivors, Head On and Shock Tactics,
until 1981 when both Thunderstick and Dickinson left, the latter to join Iron Maiden.
