The Black and White Minstrel Show, a BBC light entertainment programme, ran for two decades (1958-1978) on prime-time television.
Each week, the variety series offered a mix of traditional American minstrel songs, country tunes, show tunes and music hall numbers, interspersed with comedy routines and sketches, with notable appearances by Arthur Lowe and Lenny Henry.
Regular guests during 60s runs included Leslie Crowther and Peter Kaye, and in the 70s Keith Harris, Pam Ayres and Don Maclean.
