13-year-old Reyhan is a smart and headstrong girl growing up in a religious family. Like every year, she will spend her summer vacation with her mother Hatice and brother Mehmet in a conservative Anatolian village where her grandmother Ümmü, who is known for her bad temper and is known as “hoca” in the village, lives. The day after Reyhan arrives in the village, her first menstrual period, which she has been hiding from her mother, ends. According to religious practices, she needs to wash and clean herself by performing a ritual bath. However, the breakdown of the village bathroom and the water cuts due to drought lead Reyhan into a great impasse and fear. Reyhan, who cannot take a bath or perform a ritual bath, begins to have nightmares at night. While Reyhan struggles with superstitions on her own, she also tries to help her close friend in the village, 17-year-old Şükran, solve her problems.
