Note : Yet another bonkers Category III Hong Kong film, directed by the madman who brought us Riki-Oh, and starring, for some incomprehensible reason, Chin Siu-Ho, Maggie Cheung, and Chow Yun-Fat. It's sort of a mix of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, supernatural martial arts movies, including monstrous fetuses and a living skeleton that transforms into a Xenomorph, which is best fought with the heaviest military weaponry available, and a magical cult lead by an evil sorcerer. So maybe it's actually kind of similar to Armour of God, but with more tits and gore, and some stunts that can't possibly have been safe. It's completely insane, anyway, and well worth a watch.
On a trip to Thailand, Dr. Yuen rescues a young girl from being sacrificed by the "Worm Tribe", and is cursed with seven Blood Curses which periodically make the veins in his legs explode with great force. When the seventh curse bursts out, it will kill him, but the girl who saved him gives him an antidote produced somehow by cutting her tits with a dagger. The antidote lasts only a year, so with the help of his good friend Wisely, Yuen and his allies travel back to Thailand to battle the Worm Tribe's evil sorcerer, a hideous demon baby that's thirsty for blood, and "Old Ancestor", a reanimated skeleton with glowing blue eyes which can also transform into a giant demon monster.
This is a decent remaster, but it's a bit soft and grainy, and parts are perilously close to underexposure, but it's generally pretty watchable. The stereo remaster sounds fine, and the two commentary tracks both feature Frank Djeng, who's probably as much of an authority on this kind of stuff as someone can be.
