Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli (5 January 1920 – 12 June 1995) was a virtuoso Italian classical pianist. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century, as well as one of the most important Italian pianists along with Ferruccio Busoni and Maurizio Pollini.

The pianist performs works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert live in this 1981 concert.

Performing a mixture of works originally composed by Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms, pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli illustrates his greatness with this release. Among them are Beethoven's "Piano Sonata No. 12 in A flat major, Op. 26," "Piano Sonata No. 11 in B flat major, Op. 22," Schubert's "Piano Sonata in A minor, D 537," and Johannes Brahms "4 Ballades, Op. 10."
